A suspect brandishing a knife in the street was wounded by an officer Wednesday night on the West Side in the Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said.
About 11 p.m., officers responding to a call in the 5200 block of West Madison Street saw an armed suspect brandishing a large knife while walking in the street and coming toward civilians, police said.
Officers told the suspect to drop the weapon, but he ignored their commands. Police said the suspect then advanced toward the officers and several of them deployed their Tasers but that was ineffective, police said. When the man continued to come toward officers, one of them discharged a weapon, striking him, police said.
