Spirit Airlines plans tor reduce its flight capacity by 25% year-over-year, which will result in significant job cuts beginning in November, after recently filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for a second time in a year .
The company's downsizing is an effort to “optimize our network to focus on our strongest markets,” Spirit Airlines CEO Dave Davis told employees in a note obtained by the New York Post .
The exact number of roles set to be cut hasn't yet been publicly determined. Davis said the airline would continue to evaluate the size of its fleet ahead of scheduled meetings with Spirit's union leaders in the next few weeks, the memo stated.
