CRAIG COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) -- In just a few short weeks, the forests and fields of Virginia will be filled with deer hunters. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources reports nearly 200-thousand people are licensed to hunt deer in the Commonwealth.
While archery and firearms seasons are still weeks aways, hunting experts say now is the time to get into the woods to ensure hunting success once the season starts. That means scouting for deer signs like tracks and well-worn game trails, and deer forage like acorns, as well as for good locations for tree stands and ground blinds.
Ground blinds are labor intensive, but easy to build. It is just a matter of stacking downed logs, tree limbs, and brush to create a place where hunters can see the surrounding area, but not be seen. Doing it now
