A trust is raising money to reopen a Cambridgeshire town swimming pool. The Empress Swimming Pool in Park Street, Chatteris opened in 1964 after local builder Percy Rooke converted it from an old cinema.

In December 2023, the pool closed for routine maintenance. However, it was discovered there were more structural problems so it has remained closed since then to fix them.

The structural work can be completed by a builder, however the Empress Swimming Pool Trust needs to raise money to pay for the work. Trustee Julian Frost, who is Percy’s grandson said is is “important to the people of Chatteris” to get the swimming pool up and running again.
