More than 40,000 households in East Cambridgeshire are set to have black bins delivered next year, which will replace the black bags that are currently used. Residents will also benefit from food waste collections, in changes that East Cambridgeshire District Council hopes will help them to reduce waste and recycle more .

Kitchen caddies for food will be delivered to households, alongside a year's supply of caddy liners, and food waste will be collected every week. The black bins, for waste that cannot be recycled, will be collected every two weeks.

A free fortnightly garden waste collection is currently offered, and this will continue to be provided. The changes are expected to be implemented in June 2026.
