EBENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) -- The mother of a shooting and domestic violence victim said she isn't "vindictive" toward her daughter's killer, but does believe she has been validated by his sentence.

Michael Lyles, 36, was sentenced to 22.5 to 45 years in prison for the 2023 murder of his girlfriend, Kandace Mervin, according to WTAJ media partners at The Tribune Democrat. Lyles admitted to shooting and killing Mervin in front of her child after a July 2023 domestic dispute.

“My daughter got justice,” the victim’s mother, Lisa Pitts, said.

Lyles also acknowledged strangling Mervin during a separate incident in January 2023 and strangling another victim in February 2021. The sentence handed down is the result of a plea deal, which was accepted in July and combined three separate cases.
