Overdose deaths were down in Oakland County by 37% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to data from the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

In addition, a national Emergency Medical Service database showed a 13.3% decline in local EMS responses to nonfatal overdoses during the same period, according to a release from the county.

Over the past two years, Oakland County has dedicated funding and resources to preventing overdoses, the release said. Key efforts include:

– Conducting seven listening sessions with residents to guide opioid lawsuit settlement spending

– Establishing the Oakland County Opioid Settlement Steering Committee to help distribute settlement funds

– Launching the Overdose Fatality Review Team to help prevent future drug-related deaths
