MISSOULA — Evan Shafer puts on his headphones and presses play on the same playlist every time he begins his warmup workouts on game day.

Among that list of songs is TP & Esco’s “The Realest Sport.” The lyrics start, “This is the official song for wrestling,” and it’s understandable why the song is on the playlist. Shafer’s high school wrestling team played it during training.

That he’s carried on the tradition as a game day ritual in his senior year playing tight end for Montana is a nod to his late wrestling coach. Steven “Mac” Taylor was a big influence on him but died before he got to see Shafer play in college.

“I think he’d be really proud,” Shafer said ahead of the Grizzlies’ game against Indiana State at 1 p.m. Saturday in Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
