B.C.’s public-sector union is expanding job action — this time, to front-line services.
On Thursday morning, the B.C. General Employees’ Union announced its members at the Ministry of Citizens’ Services office in Victoria, and the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch office in Burnaby would be walking off the job.
The Ministry of Citizens’ Services handles the issuing of B.C. Services Cards, freedom of information requests, maintaining IT systems, and B.C. Bids, while the gaming branch regulates B.C.’s gaming industry including the B.C. Lottery Corporation.
It’s expected that the expanded job action will “create delays for individuals, businesses and government ministries” and “disrupt gambling service providers and slow significant provincial revenue stream.”
