Revenue from services will provide funding for operating costs

A new fire district will be created to provide fire protection service to county island parcels within Peoria city boundaries.

Council unanimously approved the proposal at its public meeting Sept. 16.

The new district will bring the 13 county islands within the city’s boundaries under one service provider.

Deputy Fire Chief Gary Bernard said revenue from the services will provide funding for operating costs.

He said since the Peoria department is already responding to the majority of the calls from the county islands, the increase in district revenue versus operating cost will be positive.
