LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office was expected to provide an update on Thursday regarding the deputy-involved shooting that killed 60-year-old Jose Luis Nunez Morales in the 9100 block of Highway 87.

LCSO said deputies received a 911 call stating Morales had been drinking and was carrying a gun. When deputies found Morales, they told him to put his hands up. According to LCSO, Morales "disregarded those orders, reached to his right side and produced a handgun, creating an imminent threat." A deputy fired his gun at Morales.
