SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (WBTV) - A former Gamecocks quarterback collapsed while coaching his son’s flag football team in South Carolina on Wednesday evening.

The former Gamecock -- Connor Shaw -- was coaching a game at a park in Greenville County when the medical event happened, according to a statement obtained by sister-station .

The statement said Shaw was taken to a hospital in Greenville and was in stable condition as of Thursday morning.

It was not immediately clear what caused the 33-year-old to collapse.

Shaw the University of South Carolina from 2010-2013, and was the primary starter for three of those seasons. He left Columbia as the school’s winningest quarterback in program history.

During his 43 games with the Gamecocks, Shaw threw for more than 6,000 yards and 56 touchdow
