Former political staffer and husband of Brittany Higgins David Sharaz, has been ordered to pay $85,000 plus interest for defamatory social media posts made against Linda Reynolds.

The ex-journalist and senior government media adviser was found by WA Supreme Court Justice Paul Tottle to have defamed Ms Reynolds, just a day after Ms Higgins lodged an appeal over Justice Tottle’s finding she had also defamed the Liberal senator.

The damages were awarded following five social media posts, one of which he was found to be jointly liable for with his wife, Ms Higgins.

In her trial, Ms Higgins was ordered to pay $135,000 plus interest with Justice Tottle confirming the pair were now “jointly and severally liable” meaning Ms Reynolds “can recover the whole amount” from either Mr Sharaz or Ms Hig
