MASSILLON – The city is letting its optional natural gas aggregation program expire this fall.

Massillon's opt-in natural gas program with Constellation concludes in November, or after final customer meter readings in October.

Suppliers are not offering municipalities any rates lower than the utility's "standard choice offer," according to a Sept. 9 Massillon Facebook post , which is a main reason for the city halting the program.

"Since we are unable to find lower rates, the city of Massillon will not be participating in a gas aggregation plan (at) this time," the message states.

A "standard choice offer" is a market-based rate for natural gas supply in Ohio for customers who haven't selected a separate natural gas provider.
