CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A La Plata man was arrested after he reportedly assaulted a woman and a child inside a home.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, Charles County deputies were called to the 6300 block of Nelson Drive for a domestic assault.

During the incident, Buchanan allegedly choked the woman, assaulted the child, and then grabbed a knife, according to deputies. He then held the knife to the woman's throat and threatened to kill her.

At one point, the woman and child were able to escape the house and find help.

When deputies arrived, Buchanan barricaded himself inside the house and, at one point, appeared in the doorway with a knife, according to the sheriff's office.
