CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A 20-year-old man was arrested after a woman was seriously injuried during an assault in Waldorf, according to deputies.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, deputies with the Charles County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in the 3300 block of Patapsco Place for an unconscious woman. There, a man told deputies that the 26-year-old woman had fallen.

Medics took her to the hospital in critical condition. It was later revealed that the woman had a severe spine fracture and she was placed on life support.

As the investigation developed, deputies learned that the woman's injuries were not consistent with a fall. The man had also changed his account of events multiple times, officials noted.
