MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee VA Police Department said goodbye to one of their most beloved employees Thursday.

Atilla, the smallest working police dog in the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, is retiring after nine years of service.

The 26.5-pound Jagdterrier has worked alongside Sergeant Christopher Agnew since 2016. The VA says his duties mostly included narcotics detection and locating dementia patients, but he's also helped other agencies with things like school searches and traffic stops.

“He’s an amazing dog,” said Sgt. Agnew. “He loves his job so much, and he’s the best partner I’ve ever had.”

Atilla will now live at home with Agnew and his family, including five children.
