New York City says it is prepared for the start of the 80th United Nations General Assembly next week, with added security in place to protect nearly 200 diplomats from around the world.

Mayor Eric Adams said there is no known, specific or credible threats against the U.N. but said the security posture is elevated out of an abundance of caution.

""We remain vigilant and we're telling New Yorkers, security is a shared responsibility. So see something, say something, most importantly, do something, notify the authorities," Adams said.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the resources being deployed are extensive and go beyond just a uniformed presence. She also said the city is prepared for protests but said the city will not tolerate anything that causes disorder."
