The now 15-year-old said talking to police was the safe option

Turning murder suspect Robert Matthews in to police was the best way to escape her relationship with him, a teen witness told his trial Thursday.

The now 15-year-old, who can only be identified as A.B., agreed with defence counsel Rebecca Snukal that testifying against him was the safest way to get rid of him.

“I’m asking if you agree that telling the police what you say Robert told you about the murder was in your mind the only way to get away from him,” Snukal said.

“It wasn’t my only option, it was the safe option,” A.B. said, about giving a police statement about what Matthews told her about the killing of homeless Calgarian Jordan Jacques-Vetten.
