NEW YORK — There is the aggressive manner in which Mike Shildt manages from the first game of the season and all through the summer.

And then there is what he did the past two days at Citi Field.

Shildt and the Padres grabbed a victory the first time. The game slipped away the second time.

It actually blew up. Right away.

Shildt removed starting pitcher Randy in Thursday’s third inning with the Padres trailing by a run and Vásquez having thrown 48 pitches.

Brandon Nimmo, the first batter that reliever Wandy Peralta faced, then drilled a three-run homer from which the Padres never recovered in what became a 6-1 loss to the Mets.
