MADISON (WKOW) — The yearly tradition of stocking Madison lakes with muskies continued Thursday.
"Muskie fishing is a very big revenue source, especially up north," said Brian Falleck, president of Capitol City Muskies Inc. "A lot of people don't think about Madison, but there are muskies here."
Muskies are stocked each year. They are provided either by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or other fish farms.
The DNR provides them bi-annually so they are able to grow.
A total of around 2,300 were spread throughout the lakes based on each lake's size. More are coming in October according to Falleck.
Muskies do not naturally reproduce in the Madison chain.
They've been stocked in the lakes every year since 1986.
