MADISON (WKOW) — State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly took a strong stance against the federal government during her State of Education address Thursday inside Wisconsin's Capitol.

Underly accused politicians of using education as a bargaining chip.

"We teach our kids to stand up to bullies but this year the biggest school yard bully in our public schools is our own federal government," Underly said.

She criticized the Trump administration for changes to the Department of Education, which she said involve pulling funds from mental health, special education and school nutrition.

"The future isn't red and it isn't blue. The future of Wisconsin is sitting in our classrooms right now," Underly said.
