PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The risk level for West Nile virus remains high in Rhode Island after it was detected in another mosquito sample.

The sample was collected in Providence on Sept. 9, according to a notice issued Thursday by the R.I. Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and R.I. Department of Health.

No other samples from around the state tested positive for West Nile virus or any other mosquito-borne illnesses, like eastern equine encephalitis (EEE).

The DEM routinely traps mosquitoes in different areas for testing and since late July, 13 samples have indicated the presence of West Nile virus. Several of those samples came from East Providence. The virus has also been detected in some communities across the border in Massachusetts.

No human or animal cases of West Nile
