HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred off the Kamchatka Peninsula on the east Russian coast.
The earthquake occurred at 8:58 a.m. Hawaii time. It is close to an earthquake that triggered a tsunami warning for the islands on July 29.
Tsunami advisories were posted for portions of the Aleutian Islands closer to the epicenter, but no alerts were issued elsewhere around the Pacific, including Hawaii.
This quake should be another reminder that tsunami threats can occur at any time. You should be prepared by knowing if you are in a tsunami evacuation zone. You can find an interactive map here .
