U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem will speak Friday night at the Michigan Republican Party's 36th biennial conference on Mackinac Island, according to the state GOP .
The Michigan Republican Party announced Wednesday evening that Noem, a prominent member of President Donald Trump's administration, had been added to the schedule for the three-day gathering of Republicans at the Grand Hotel. Traditionally, the event, which occurs every other year, has been a showcase of up-and-coming talent for the GOP nationally.
This year, state Sen. Jim Runestad, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said he hopes the conference displays a "renewed enthusiasm."
