ORONO — Officials at the University of Maine are reviewing safety measures after two pedestrians were hit by vehicles on campus within a week of each other.

Since classes resumed earlier this month, two people have been hospitalized after being struck. The first incident happened Sept. 9, when a student hit a university employee. The second occurred Sept. 16, when an employee struck a student.

“I can tell you both crashes are still under investigation,” said University of Maine Police Chief William Flagg.

Flagg said the Sept. 16 crash resulted in minor injuries.

“It was a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Minor injuries. The person was transported to the hospital and released,” Flagg said.
