MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A nonprofit pro-democracy law firm has filed a class action lawsuit against the City of Madison after it failed to count votes on 193 ballots in the November 2024 election, according to a release on Thursday.
The nonprofit Law Forward filed the lawsuit on behalf of eight plaintiffs, alleging city officials did not do their duty to properly count submitted absentee ballots. It further alleges Madison officials had several opportunities to fix the situation before the votes were finalized.
“Making sure every vote is counted is at the heart of our democracy—these voters deserved better,” said Scott Thompson, staff counsel at Law Forward. “In Wisconsin, we value the right to vote, and there will be consequences when that right is denied.”
