A Worcester County jury found a man guilty of strangling a child before throwing her off a bridge in 2017, but did not find him guilty of raping her.
The child survived the assault, and the suspect, Joshua Hubert, faced charges including rape of a child, attempted murder, kidnapping and strangulation.
After three days of deliberating, a jury found Hubert guilty of attempted murder by means of strangulation, guilty of attempted murder by means of drowning, guilty of strangulation or suffocation, and guilty of kidnapping a child under 16. He was found not guilty of aggravated rape of a child and not guilty of rape of a child aggravated by age.
Prosecutors said Hubert was a friend of members of the 7-year-old's family and attended a cookout with them on Aug. 26, 2017.
