HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford's annual Puerto Rican Day Parade is Sunday at noon, but before it steps off, a symbol of cultural pride was unveiled in the Capitol City as a preview of the big day.
A Puerto Rican flag is now flying high above the Connecticut State Capitol Building. The flag also embodies this years theme, "refining our cultural legacy."
"It's important because we need to keep our customs and culture alive," Dorely Roldan, Puerto Rican Day honoree, said.
This year marks 61 years of the parade.
"It's one of the best weekends in the city of Hartford," Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam (D) said. "We are so proud of our Puerto Rican community and the rich heritage and rich culture."
