ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Republican former state Sen. Andrew Koenig announced Thursday he plans to run for County Council.

Koenig, of Manchester, said in a news release that he has been a champion for taxpayers and families and has a track record of "cutting taxes, fighting government waste and defending Missouri families."

He decided to run for council District 3, which includes Fenton and Town and Country, because he wants to make St. Louis County a better place for his family and others, according to the release.

"We want to make sure our kids, and yours, have the opportunity to live, work and raise their families in safe, thriving neighborhoods with accountable leadership," Koenig said.
