Washoe County’s library board voted unanimously on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to recommend modifying library hours, depending on finances. That could mean shutting the doors of three community libraries.

The scheduling decision comes after the library system announced on Facebook on Sept. 10 that specific locations would be closed for a total of eight days due to staff shortages .

According to library system spokesperson Brad Bynum, the reduced staffing was due to budget uncertainty . In November, voters rejected the renewal of a ballot initiative that had designated $4.5 million in tax revenue each year for libraries. The money will still be collected but now goes into the county’s general fund.
