BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The remains of 38 veterans were escorted up to Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday morning to be buried with full military honors. The public was invited to see the ceremony, which included a procession and bell-ringing. It's part of the state's Forgotten Heroes Funeral Ceremony Program, which looks to make sure every veteran who passes in New Mexico gets recognized.
"It is an honor for us to come together today to honor those veterans that have served our country, that have gone unclaimed at death, for whatever reason. Everybody has a story. So we're together to lay them to rest, with a funeral service and a memorial service that they so deserve," said Bernlaillo County Deputy County Manager Lisa Sedillo-White.
