IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel says he’s changed his mind regarding a joint law enforcement project for various reasons. After hearing the division among city leaders at this week’s council meeting , he officially shifted his perspective and notified the city, and the county Board of Supervisors .
During a press conference on Thursday he said, specifically, there wasn’t alignment regarding the timeline, priorities, and scope between the city and the county.
“There’s a lot of unknowns that create some land minds in the process that may will be unavoidable. Everything from location to - I don’t know if we would ever find a complete understanding of the scope of what the law enforcement authority should do,” said Sheriff Kunkel.
