CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - An Iowa Congressional candidate says he is receiving violent threats after a speech he gave.

District 3 candidate Xavier Carrigan spoke at a Polk County Democratic event Saturday.

During his speech, he said, “Going high when they go low got us here. So, I say when they go low, we drive our knee right in their face.”

The Republican Party of Iowa claims that Carrigan could incite violence, following the death of Charlie Kirk.

But Carrigan says his words were metaphorical, “When I talk about driving our knee into their face, it’s saying I’m drawing a line in the sand. There are certain things I will not buckle on. ”

It comes as Republican leaders continue to call for the punishment of those celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk.
