BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Summer is certainly going out with a bang! Birmingham was one of the hot spots Thursday reaching 97º with isolated showers and storms across the area. Fall officially arrives on Monday, but the hotter afternoons will continue well into the next week.

A stray shower or storm could linger this evening. Otherwise, plan for partially to mostly clear conditions with lows in the 60s.

AIR QUALITY ALERT: A code orange air quality alert will be in effect for Jefferson and Shelby Counties on Friday for higher ground level ozone concentrations.
