Nexstar said that it made the decision to pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel ‘s show from its ABC stations “unilaterally,” without communication with members of the FCC or other government agencies.

The company, the largest station group in the country, said in a statement, “The decision to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! was made unilaterally by the senior executive team at Nexstar, and they had no communication with the FCC or any government agency prior to making that decision.”

Nexstar has issued the statement in response to criticism that its decision to drop the show “for the foreseeable future” was motivated by a desire to get in the good graces of FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.
