Anze Kopitar announced Thursday that he will retire after this season.

The 38-year-old center is beginning his 20th season in the NHL, all with the Los Angeles Kings. He's entering the final season of a two-year, $14 million contract (average annual value of $7 million) he signed July 6, 2023, and said after the 2023-24 season that the end of that contract could be the right time to step away.

"Haven't thought about it that far along but, yeah, 39 (years old), I think it'll be a pretty good age to maybe think about the end," he said after the Kings were eliminated from the 2024 Western Conference First Round.

A two-time Stanley Cup champion (2012, 2014), Kopitar was named Kings captain June 16, 2016, and is the first player from Slovenia to skate in the League. In an interview with KCA
