FRANKFORT, Ky. — A Louisville lawmaker plans to file legislation next year to ban machine gun conversion devices statewide.
State Rep. Jason Nemes (R-Middletown) presented his proposed legislation during the Interim Joint Committee on Judiciary's meeting on Thursday, Sept. 18.
The devices, which are easily concealed modifications, can turn a common semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic weapon and are already illegal at the federal level.
According to Nemes, the devices can be made using 3D printers or purchased online for as low as $20. These "switches" or "auto sears" are often associated with Glock handguns. Nemes said the company has submitted a letter of support for his legislation.
