A verdict was reached Thursday afternoon in the trial of Joshua Hubert, a 43-year-old Worcester man, who was accused by authorities of kidnapping, raping and throwing his best friend’s daughter off a bridge in 2017 — charges he had faced for over eight years.
The jury found Hubert:
Guilty of attempted murder (drowning)
Guilty of attempted murder (strangling)
Guilty of strangulation or suffocation
Guilty of kidnapping a child under 16
Not guilty of aggravated rape of a child
Not guilty of rape of a child aggravated by age
Prosecutors accused him of taking his friend’s 7-year-old daughter from her grandparents’ home as she slept after a family party on Aug. 27, 2017, then driving around Worcester with the child. Prosecutors said he raped the girl, then threw her off the Interstate 29
