RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A high number of young kids are testing positive for heavy narcotics in Richland County, many are pre-school age children.

Officials say kids often access these drugs inside the home, and sometimes the results can be deadly.

“Those are always the ones that we never forget,” said Richland County Children Services Executive Director Tara Lautzenhiser.

This past May, her agency investigated a case involving an 8-year-old Mansfield girl who died after ingesting methadone.

Detectives discovered a bottle of liquid methadone inside the home.

Richland County Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher is still investigating that case, and no one has been arrested.
