WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A D.C. man was arrested Thursday in connection with a deadly July shooting in Northeast D.C., the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia detailed.

Edgar Arrington, 38, appeared before a judge in the D.C. Superior Court, where he was charged with first-degree murder while armed, with a hate crime enhancement (gender identity).

According to court documents, Arrington had allegedly shouted slurs towards Daquan Johnson, who identified as transgender, as they were walking on the sidewalk.

Arrington proceeded to follow Johnson, who was unknown to him, continuing to harass him before pulling out a firearm and shooting Johnson multiple times. Johnson later died from their injuries.

The USAO stated that Arrington is being held without bon
