DES MOINES, Iowa ( KCCI ) - The varsity football seasons for seven Iowa teams have been either canceled or put on hold this fall, KCCI reports.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association says the varsity football seasons for Lone Tree, Rockford and Dunkerton have been canceled before participation.
Siouxland Christian also cancelled its football season after its opening game.
The 2024 eight-player champion, Remsen-St. Mary’s, has temporarily paused its season, along with Highland (Riverside) and Mormon Trail, with the possibility of resuming play this fall.
Many schools say the decision was made due to low participation numbers and safety concerns.
