CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Kate Lindsay is the first woman to play for Coe College’s varsity football team.

Lindsay is a sophomore kicker for the Kohawks. In the Bremner Cup, she kicked off twice for Coe, pinning the Rams back on their 17 and 28 yard line.

Lindsay began playing football after a recommendation from a teacher at Van Meter. It came from her playing style on the soccer field.

“I was basically our designated kicker on the team. So I did all the corner kicks, penalty kicks, and all of that. So I was just like, ‘Wow, I’m kind of good at this,” said Lindsay.

After starting, she couldn’t get enough of the gridiron.

“I went to, I don’t even know how many camps during my summers in between each year. I couldn’t get a summer job, because that’s all I was doing,” said Lindsay.
