Seven people have been taken into custody as homicide detectives investigate the stabbing deaths of two schoolboys in Melbourne’s outer north west.

Fifteen-year-old Dau Akueng and 12-year-old Chol Achiek were set upon while walking home from basketball in Cobblebank on September 6.

The brutal attack has been described by police as “one of the worst” knife crimes witnessed in the city.

Emergency crews were called to Marble Drive just before 8pm, where Achiek was found critically injured.

Akueng was located moments later on nearby Cobble Street with serious wounds. Despite desperate efforts from members of the public to provide first aid, both boys died before reaching hospital.
