UNION COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- Union County School District students have an opportunity to get a head start on entering the welding and manufacturing industries through a dual-enrollment program.

That program is offered in partnership with Spartanburg Community College's Union County Campus.

One student in the class, junior Bishop Spencer, said he hopes to go into pipe welding for cars.

"I plan on maybe taking the summer class so I can get the first certificate," Spencer explained. "And I plan on trying to come back next semester for the advanced [certificate], which is the big pipe."

Starting their junior or senior year, students like Bishop can walk away with various welding certifications and hands-on experience.
