SHREVEPORT, La. - The Caddo Parish Commission has approved the allocation of funds to develop a new pickleball park in the southeast portion of the parish.
The vote was 9 to 3, with commissioners Ken Kracman, Ron Cothran and Ken Epperson Sr. voting no.
The vote came after many citizens spoke in favor and in opposition to the plan.
"First and foremost, I'm against it because you're asking us as taxpayers to put the burden on us," said one resident.
"The data says a it will take 10 to 20 years to recoup the $10 m used to pay for it," said another resident.
Visit Shreveport-Bossier Executive Director Stacey Brown says last year 9.7 million visitors came to Caddo Parish and she anticipates more tourism dollars due to pickleball tournaments.
