A woman has been charged following a crash where two men died in the state's north earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to Droneys Bridge Road, Fairy Hill, on March 26, where they found a car submerged in the Richmond River.

A 23-year-old had been able to get out the car by herself and was uninjured.

With assistance from Police Rescue and NSW SES crews, the vehicle was retrieved from the water.

The bodies of two men - aged 26 and 27 - were found inside the car.

Following a police investigation, officers arrested the 23-year-old woman at a unit in Glen Innes yesterday.

She was taken to Glen Innes Police Station, where she was charged with negligent driving occasioning death and driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, among other charges.
