A search and rescue operation will resume this morning in a bid to find the pilot of a light plane after a crash in the state's south yesterday.
The pilot, aged in his 60s, took off at 11am yesterday from Bankstown Airport and flew to Mallacoota in Victoria before turning back and disappearing over Budawang National Park.
There were no passengers in the aircraft, which came from Bankstown Flying School.
Emergency services were called to Budawang National Park – about 25km north of Batemans Bay – at around 4.30pm after an aircraft emergency location transmitter was activated.
Police believe the pilot was heading back to the airport when the crash happened.
