CUMBERLAND, Maine — Police in Cumberland said they helped rescue an injured barred owl found in the roadway Thursday night.

The bird appeared injured and was unable to fly, police said on social media shortly after 10 p.m.

After consulting with the Maine Warden Service and Avian Haven, the owl was picked up and will be delivered to a rehabilitation center on Friday, police said.

Barred owls are one of Maine's most common owl species and are known for their distinctive "Who cooks for you?" call , according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
