Hunter Nelson scored in the last minute of play as Hermantown snatched a 2-1 Lake Superior Conference victory at home against Grand Rapids on Thursday night.
Parker Clennon had put the home side up a goal in the 15th minute from Brennan Malmstrom’s assist, but Rapids responded, drawing a penalty early in the second half, which Ben Blake converted to leave the game 1-1 until Nelson’s late heroics.
Ethan Aysta made 11 saves for the Hawks, while Hayden Jackson stopped nine shots for the Thunderhawks.
Esko took control of the game early, getting goals from Gianna Madill, Addy Parrott and Maddie Hipp to win a rematch of last year’s Section 7A championship game.
Emma Johnson had 10 saves for Marshall.
